Who operates VideoHabits
VideoHabits, formerly ViHabits and Self Mirror: Daily Goals, is operated by Ethan Tran, an individual. Our website is https://videohabits.com. This policy explains how the app handles information. For privacy questions or requests, contact [email protected].
Information you provide
Account information includes your account identifier, name, email or Apple relay email, basic Google sign-in information if you choose Google, sign-in information handled by our authentication provider, preferences, timezone, day start time, bedtime, setup answers, and your versioned Terms agreement and Privacy Policy acknowledgment.
Your daily content includes recordings you make or import, audio, transcripts and timestamps when processing is enabled, suggested and saved goals, deadlines, completion information, motivational excerpts from your own recording, and optional pictures or videos you attach as evidence. Content may include personal or sensitive information you choose to say or upload.
Friends features store invitation codes, requests, accepted connections, blocks, selected posts and recipients, comments, encouragement, and reports. We do not upload your address book to find friends.
How the app uses information
We use information to authenticate you, keep your daily recordings and goals, personalize your chosen experience, deliver reminders, provide selected sharing, reconcile subscription access, prevent abuse, enforce processing and storage limits, and resolve errors or requests. Service providers may process technical information such as IP addresses, app/device details, request times, and security or diagnostic events while providing these functions.
Our website provides app information, guides, and beta download links. Website hosting providers may receive technical request information to deliver and protect the site. We use HeyCatch to understand website visits, clicked links, and channel attribution. HeyCatch receives page URLs, browser and device information, interaction events, and anonymous visitor and session identifiers. We do not identify analytics visitors using waitlist email addresses. The website does not provide access to your private recording library.
The beta does not display advertising. We do not sell your personal information or use your recordings for advertising. We do not intentionally log recording content, transcripts, private comments, or personal excerpts in application diagnostic messages.
Cloud storage and AI are separate choices
Signed-in cloud recordings and account content are stored using Supabase. Choosing manual goals turns off AI processing; it does not make a signed-in cloud recording an on-device-only recording.
AI processing requires a separate choice. If you enable it, OpenAI receives your recording audio, or an audio-bearing recording file where required, to transcribe it. Transcript text and relevant date/time context are then sent to OpenAI to suggest goals. You review suggestions before saving. Evidence attachments are not sent for AI verification.
The optional Live Goals feature uses on-device speech recognition when available and permitted. With your separate permission, live transcript text and relevant timing context are sent through our server to OpenAI for suggestions. If recognition is unavailable, the app can keep the recording for the normal after-Stop flow.
Creating an account, agreeing to the Terms, or acknowledging this policy does not enable AI or Live Goals. Camera, microphone, speech recognition, and notification permissions are separate device choices.
You can change AI processing in Settings → Privacy and turn off Live Goals separately. Withdrawing permission stops new processing after the app/server receives the change; it cannot recall information already sent or necessarily cancel an in-flight provider request. You can delete saved content separately.
OpenAI states that API content is not used for model training by default. Provider retention, safety, legal obligations, and any applicable provider settings still apply; this app does not promise zero retention or immediate provider deletion.
Who receives information
Supabase provides account authentication, database, private storage, and server functions. OpenAI provides optional transcription and goal extraction. Apple provides Apple sign-in, iPhone purchase services, device permissions, and notification delivery. RevenueCat receives the app account identifier and purchase/subscription information to reconcile access. The app does not receive your full payment-card details from Apple purchases.
If you choose Google sign-in, Google processes the authentication request and shares your account identifier and, when available, basic profile name and email with the app and Supabase to sign you in. We do not request access to Gmail, Google Drive, contacts, or other Google account content.
If you enable push reminders, Expo and Apple process the push token and notification payload for delivery. When private previews are off, that payload can include a goal title or excerpt from your recording. You can keep preview details private and change notification permissions in iOS Settings.
Our configured backend is in the United States. Providers may process information in other countries where they or their service providers operate. Their own privacy, retention, and processing terms also apply.
Friends, sharing, and widgets
Your recording library is private by default. Publishing a Friends post shares the selected goals and their current completion progress with your current and future accepted friends. A friend you accept later can see your previous Friends-audience posts. Full recording videos and evidence are included only when selected in the sharing preview you confirm. This does not open your private recording library or unselected attachments.
Earlier posts shared with selected recipients keep that selected audience. Removing and re-adding a friend does not restore their earlier selected-recipient access. A new accepted friendship can restore access to Friends-audience posts because that audience follows your current accepted friends.
Comments and encouragement on a Friends post are visible to eligible viewers of that post, subject to blocking and current access. The app receives content-free private update signals and then refreshes the authorized feed; these signals do not carry recording, goal, or comment content.
You can unshare, remove a friend, block, report, and delete content. Removing or blocking a friend removes future access through the app until an eligible friendship exists again. Unsharing removes the post. These actions cannot erase a screenshot, copy, or media already received by someone.
Home Screen widgets can display a small snapshot of your saved goal titles, progress, and deadlines on your device. Lock Screen widgets show completion counts without goal titles. The app shares these snapshots with its own widget extension, not with other users. Sign-out requests a clear and refresh; iOS may retain an already-rendered image until the system refreshes it.
Retention, deletion, and device copies
Saved cloud days, recordings, transcripts, goals, and evidence remain until you delete them or your account. Associated active account records, including legal receipts, are removed with account deletion. Cleanup may need a retry if a service is unavailable. Provider logs, backups, transaction records, and legally required records can follow separate retention schedules; deletion is not a promise of immediate erasure from every backup or provider.
The app keeps account-scoped preferences, caches, drafts, upload-resume information, and media on your device to recover interrupted work. Earlier on-device preview recordings are separate and are never uploaded automatically. Manage those recordings under On-Device Recordings; deleting a cloud account does not necessarily erase separate earlier preview content or copies you exported.
Deleting the app or changing devices can remove local-only recordings. Deleting your app account does not cancel an Apple subscription; manage that subscription through Apple.
Your choices and requests
You can edit preferences and goals, control device permissions, choose manual processing, change reminders and preview details, choose sharing recipients, unshare, block, and delete days or your account in the app. Contact [email protected] for access, correction, a copy of information, deletion assistance, or other privacy requests. We may need to verify your identity. Available rights depend on the law that applies to you.
We do not ask for a date of birth. If you believe a child has provided information that should not have been collected, contact us so we can review and address it.
Security and changes
We use access controls and secure connections designed to protect information. Cloud content is not end-to-end encrypted: the services providing storage or selected processing need access to perform those functions. No system can guarantee complete security.
We identify this policy by its date and version. Material changes will be presented for review where appropriate. Privacy acknowledgment does not replace separate AI permission, and declining a new agreement does not remove access to account privacy and deletion controls.
